Jomsom Muktinath Trekking is a beautiful journey through the beautiful Annapurna region to the holy Muktinath. Trekkers can explore the hundreds of years old monastery, caves, local tribes and scenic beauties of the different landscapes along the trek. The trek follows along the world's deepest gorge into one of the worlds’s highest regions passing through a steep rocky, barren trail along the panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and several other peaks.
The trek starts with a walk through the Annapurna region along the paddy terraces and villages inhabited by the indigenous people, mostly the Gurungs. After passing through the hot spring at Tatopani, the trail passes through Jomsom and Kagbeni, the entry point of the upper Mustang Region. One of the main highlights of the trek is a visit the holy site of Muktinath temple. Muktinath temple is a famous pilgrimage for both Hindus and Buddhist. The trek can be extended to the once forbidden kingdom of Upper Mustang. The grandeur of the Dhaulagiri glacier is a magnificent show from a little further from Muktinath temple.
The trek is full of astounding sceneries of mountains and unique terrains. The beautiful sunrise from the Poonhill, refreshing dip in the hot water spring at Tatopani, encounter with diverse ethnic groups and culture and ever changing terrain on the trail makes this trek an exquisite adventure.

Welcome to the colorful city of Kathmandu. Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, we will be greeted by the Officers from Himalayan Eco Treks and Travel who will help you with the transfer to the hotel. The hotel check in will followed by a short trek briefing regarding any remaining trekking formalities. After the short orientation, we are free to relax in the comfort of the hotel or stroll around to explore the vibrant surroundings. In the evening, we will enjoy a wonderful welcome dinner along with a cultural program in an authentic Nepali restaurant. Overnight in Kathmandu.
After a hearty breakfast, we set out on a guided tour to the Bungmati in Lalitpur district. We will visit various temples and palaces listed UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The unique designs and high architectural skills of the Newars are displayed through these beautiful monuments. There is enough time to explore the city on our own pace. After the tour, we will meet our tour officer/ guide , who will help us with the final preparation for the trek.
After a hearty breakfast, we will be transferred to the domestic airport to take a 30 minute scenic flight to Pokhara. We will be received by our local trekking guide at the airport for an hour long drive to Nayapool, from where we will commence our trek. We walk through ethnic Gurung villages and terraced farms while enjoying the views of stunning Machhapuchare (Fish Tail) in the vista. We will be ready to hit the trail after a short tea break at Birethanti, a large prosperous village besides the river Modi Khola. The trail follows the main street of Birethanti through mixed forests and terraced fields along the Bhurjung Khola river. Passing through a pasture used by pony caravans, the trail reaches the green terraced Gurung village called Hille, where we will stop for a lunch. After the lunch, we climb up the valley passing through Tirkhedhunga to reach Ulleri. We rest our first night of the trek in this spectacular view point ridge to prepare ourselves for next day’s trek to Ghorepani (4:30 hrs).
After a breakfast in the morning, the trail gradually climbs to Nagethani viewpoint. We follow the historic trade route to Tibet through stone layered Gurung cottages, streams, mixed forests with chirping birds and butterflies. We will be encountering caravans of mules as we pass through refreshingly cool oak and rhododendron forest. We will be able to enjoy the fantastic views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan range after a few hours of walk from Banthali. The admirable natural beauty and scenery of the place will boost our energy and help us to climb up the steep steps to Ghorepani. Ghorepani is also one of the most popular viewpoints in Nepal. The place welcomes us with spectacular Mountain vista of Dhaulagiri I (8167m), Annapurna South, Annapurna I (8091m), Tukuche Nilgiri (6940m), Nilgiri (7193m) and Himchuli (6441m). We will enjoy our lunch with one of the most scenic vista from a balcony in Ghorepani Hill. In the winter this place gets lots of snow, adding extra fun to the trek. Our day trek to Ghorepani offers plenty of time to rest, relax or stroll around to meet local people. Overnight in Ghorepani (4:30 hrs)
We start early to Poon hill (3210 meters) to view a stunning sunrise view over the mountains like Annapurna, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchre in the spectacular dawn. After taking the views of these astonishing sceneries, we return back to Ghorepani to enjoy our breakfast and start our trek to Tatopani. We follow the route to Jomsom through rhododendron forests and small villages along the Ghaja Khola River. We spend a refreshing time in the natural hot spring in Tatopani. We should bring our bathing costumes to enjoy the refreshing dip in the hot spring. Overnight in Tatopani (8 hrs)
Walking on a dusty road is definitely not fun. Therefore, we will take a ride from Tatopani to Muktinath. We will enjoy the beautiful villages of Khingar and Jharkot along the way to our destination. Muktinath is an important pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhist. The temple perfectly demonstrates the religions harmony in Nepal. The word “Muktinath” means place of Nirvana God. The area hosts a Vishnu temple and a Monastery nearby. The 108 waterspouts around the temple pours holy water. The visit to Muktinath temples is said to relieve every pain and sorrow in life. Jwala Mai Temple, near Muktinath, hosts a gorgeous natural spring and an eternal flame fueled by natural gas. (4 hrs).
Today is our rest day . We rest in this beautiful land of Salvation, Muktinath or take a hike to the base of the Thorung La Pass. We take a gradual hike through the rough trail into the land where we can have a wide view of the upper Mustang and the Lower Mustang Valley. The stunning view from the base of the pass is worth your photographs. We also have an option to take a site tour to Jharkot, the oldest walled capital of Mustang. We will come back to Muktinath for the night.
We will have an easy walk back to Jomsom following a different route than earlier. We will encounter many people from Mustang, the hidden kingdom, who comes to sell handicrafts in Muktinath. We will also see them selling a highly revered mollusk fossil called Shaligram. As we continue along our way we will pass some ancient caves to come across an impressive view of the Dhauragiri mountain. We will pass through the village of Kagbeni as we gradually climb to the village of Jomsom. (6hrs)
After a hearty breakfast, we go to the Airport at Jumla for an early flight to Pokhara. The 25 minute flight to Pokhara exhibits the beauty of the Kali Gandaki Gorge, magnificent mountains, rivers and lush hills. The hills look stunning in spring when the colorful flowers are in bloom. Pokhara is a peaceful lakeside city harboring a unique setting of tropical climate and vegetation with stunning lakes and the melodramatic Himalayan view in the background. We have plenty of places to visit in Pokhara. We have a guided tour around the Pokhara to visit Davis falls, Mountain Museum and Peace Pagoda. We spend our night at the lakeside in Pokhara.
After a breakfast at the hotel, we drive from the tranquil city of Pokhara to the vibrant Kathmandu city. We have a 6 hour long drive along the winding road along the Trisuli. We get transferred to our comfortable hotels in Kathmandu. This is an ideal day to rest our exhausted body with a spa or massage. We can also wander around exploring the vibrant Kathmandu city.
Leisure in Kathmandu is an ideal time to visit any missed out places in Kathmandu Valley. Kathmandu Valley has numerous temples, palaces and shrines that hold historical, cultural and architectural value. This is also a good opportunity to go shopping for souvenirs. Finally, it is time to bid farewell to this wonderful land. Our tour officer will meet us in the hotel and help us in our transfer to the International Airport.
